ABOUT US

the K

ART SIGNATURES

the K art signatures offers nearly 200 m² of exhibition space on the canal, next to the future Kanal-Centre Pompidou museum and opposite Tour & Taxis.

Founded by Philippe Berkenbaum & Nathalie Jonniaux, this new-style gallery is first and foremost a place for sharing, where visitors are invited to spend time in a comfortably furnished space. Time to chat with gallery owners and artists, time to sip a coffee, browse the catalogs and art books in the library, or view presentations, portraits and video installations. Time to attend or take part in the many events organized throughout the year: openings, live performances, readings, signings, shows, concerts, dinners, workshops & demonstrations…

OUR
PROJECT

the K

ART SIGNATURES

Building bridges between artistic disciplines, weaving strong human links with artists, audiences and each other, by multiplying opportunities for encounters and exchanges.

With our eclectic yet accessible choices, we aim to appeal to the widest possible audience, from amateurs to the curious, from neophytes to collectors.

Our gallery doesn’t specialize in any particular genre, and is just as open to established artists as to emerging talents, provided they’re alive and kicking. Our choices are guided by emotion and the quest for an aesthetic that is inevitably subjective, but which submits neither to standards nor to the diktats of fashion and current trends.

Open to the world and integrated into its neighborhood, the K art signatures aims to create connections between artists and visitors, weaving links between art and all types of public, especially the less informed.

Those who are too far away, unwilling or unable to join us physically, will have access to all our online programming and will be regularly invited to visit the studios of our artists, in Belgium and abroad. Even virtually.

OUR
PHILOSOPHY

the K

ART SIGNATURES

the K art signatures puts people at the heart of its project, so that everyone – artist and spectator alike – can discover a part of themselves.

Art is the shortest path between men”, said Albert Camus (who didn’t care about gender equality back then).

Accessible, the K art signatures exhibit works and artists that appeal to all audiences, from amateurs to collectors, from neophytes to specialists.

A creation is all the more remarkable when it arouses emotion in the greatest number of people. Our eclectic gallery is open to both established and emerging artists. It refuses to confine itself to a particular genre or style, and is interested in all modes of expression in modern and contemporary art. It strives to build bridges between the arts, artists and the public. Let the soul of our artists touch that of the visitor.

WHO WE ARE

the K

ART SIGNATURES

“Draw from the source of authenticity.
To sift through our subjectivity.
To offer to those who vibrate in unison.
Perhaps touch the depths of their emotions.”

Who we are

NATHALIE JONNIAUX

Born in Brussels in 1964, Nathalie has lived in Palma for 25 years, having previously lived in Munich and Berlin. She is a Belgian and polyglot figure on the Balearic Islands’ largest island, where everyone knows her. Mother of 4, she has devoted her career to organizing events, advertising shoots and other communications activities. But it’s her latest venture that she’s most proud of: the art agency The Art Signatures, created to promote local and international artists around the world. Having returned to Belgium to be closer to her children, among other motivations, she chose to put her passion for art and artists into practice by creating a gallery. Her responsibilities include artistic direction.

PHILIPPE BERKENBAUM

A journalist trained at ESJ Lille after a bachelor’s degree in commercial engineering from Solvay, Philippe is a self-taught photographer who worked for a major daily newspaper for 20 years before setting out on his own to embark on new adventures. An avid traveler, art lover and (modest) collector, this native of Brussels, born in 1962, is passionate about discovering other cultures – his photos are regularly exhibited – and about art in all its forms, both tribal and contemporary. While he pursues his career as a versatile journalist, his main passion is launching and managing projects, such as the creation of the Sirop de Bruxelles magazine a few years ago (with his partners from Liège, the initiators of the concept). The opening of an art gallery focused on human values, conviviality and openness to the world is the culmination of a long-held dream. He is now the general manager.
